Staying healthy and prepping for road trips!

With summer upon us and in full swing, many of us are heading off on adventures to exotic destinations (or maybe just an hour away to a friends house).

While the summer can be a great time for get-togethers and cookouts, you don't want to jeopardize the work you have already done for fast food lines and snacks at gas stations while on the road.

A few minutes of planning can save your body from hundreds to thousands of unhealthy calories and your budget from breaking!

First and foremost, make sure you have a decent size cooler, or cold bag that you can pack a few meals in. Secondly, when traveling, I always adhere to the rule that nothing should be packed that needs to be heated. Trying to find a microwave that you can use on the go can be difficult to say the least. Even though some gas stations do have microwaves, they tend to get a little fussy when you're not buying THEIR food to heat up.

Make sure you a prepping for at least a whole days menu and snacks so cravings don't sneak up on you. The picture above is a sample I had packed for my 10 hour drive across 4 states. Guess what, it worked like a charm! I spent $40 on gas, and nothing more. WOOT!

Breakfast - overnight oats with banana, blueberries, vanilla lowfat or 1% yogurt, and old fashioned rolled oats.

Lunch - 6 slices of turkey with 1 slice pepper jack cheese, romaine lettuce and mustard on a Flat out low calories wrap.

Dinner - Mixed greens salad with chicken or steak bites, and veggie additives (orange container filled with dressing.)

Snacks - 1 cup of fruit. - Berry mix, tropical mix, or whole fruit such as an apple, peach, or pear.

Snack 2 - There are ton's of prepackaged healthy snacks out there on the market. Don't be afraid to look at ingredients and put a couple options in your cart. Balanced Breaks by Sargento, P3, Rev it Up Wraps, and countless others.

Enjoy your trip!

P.S. My kids and I so did this jamming to Queen in the car on the way to Ohio. LOL. Great song and loads of family bonding!
