How to focus on YOU (and not feel guilty.)

My family hiking with me at Hanging Rock State Park in North Carolina

We're there. I'm there with you! As a working mother of five, dedicated to her kids, husband, and job, it gets hard to find time for you without feeling guilty.

"Just do Lisa things." Two weeks before my father passed away, I found myself in an empty house for the first time in 12 years. And I had the WHOLE night. My husband was off with his brother to a concert and ALL 5 of my kids were at other peoples houses staying the night. I was LOST! So I called my father, and he gave me the best advice. "Just do Lisa things."

Unfortunately, after 12 years of really doing nothing but taking care of other people, I had NO idea what things I wanted to do for me.

That was it. In that moment, I had an epiphany. I had lost myself to my family and my job. I spent the rest of that night thinking about what I really wanted my life to be like. It was time to find MY things!

Once I started doing things from me, my family was actually happier, as was I. I started with just an hour a day after the kids fell asleep. My time! As time went by, I've added my children and family to MY things and we're all happier, healthier, and closer. Whether it's art, writing, working out, or cooking, my family is enjoying the things I was interested in!

You can't feel guilty. You will be healthier mentally and emotionally. This will effect all your relationships!

You have to help YOU! If you don't take time for you, your "You" time here on Earth may be gone before it should be and then where will your family be? Don't feel guilty! Though it may feel like it's just you being selfish, you have to change your mindset! You are doing it FOR THEM!

So go find YOUR thing! You never know, it may be your family's thing as well, bringing you closer to them, and helping you find balance in loving your life!

~Lisa
